RE: JPA Draft Comments - USDA National Organic Program (Input Requested by April 3, 2015)

On March 19, 2015, JPA staff notified members of the April 2015 meeting of the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). The NOSB will be considering petitions for substances to be added to the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances (National List). In part, the National List identifies the synthetic and nonsynthetic substances that are permitted for use in organic handling and organic crop production. The NOSB will also consider substances that will sunset (i.e., their use will expire) in 2016 and 2017. It was reported that JPA has submitted comments to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regarding the National Organic Program.

Attached is a copy of JPA’s draft comments in support of the synthetic and nonsynthetic substances used during the manufacture of organic juice and juice products being maintained on the National List. Please review these comments and provide your input to me by the close of business on April 3, 2015. If we do not hear from you by the deadline, we will assume the comments, as drafted, are appropriate and will proceed with submitting them to the USDA.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or comments.
